The goal of marketing is to serve the customer. It is not about colour schemes and long lunches, it’s about customer satisfaction. Branding and advertising may be some of the tools for achieving this goal but they are part of a larger framework of activity. At the root of all marketing activity should be a profound understanding of the customer’s need, the market and the company’s goals. The three have to be aligned for the company to have a decent chance to prosper.
